6th Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony

Monday, December 13, 2010 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Town Hall Courtyard

Take part in community tradition at the annual Tree Lighting Ceremony on Monday, December 13 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the courtyard at Aurora Town Hall! Help decorate the Town tree while enjoying carolling, the Salvation Army’s brass band, a holiday play, children’s crafts, complimentary hot chocolate and an early glimpse of Santa.

Residents can help trim the tree with an ornament from home or they can enjoy making one on site. Craft supplies will be available for little tree trimmers.

Similar to last year, the Tree Lighting Ceremony will also play host to the Salvation Army as they join with Mayor and Council to officially kick-off the annual Christmas Kettle Drive Campaign.

To help those in need this season, Council is also asking visitors to bring a non-perishable food donation or an unwrapped toy.

The Town of Aurora would like to thank this year’s Tree Lighting Ceremony sponsors: Aurora Home Hardware, Bell, CIBC and Tim Hortons.

Evening entertainment highlights:

• 6:45 p.m. Join Santa, the Mayor and Town Council for the official countdown to light the Tree.
• 7:15 p.m. Join Mrs. Claus at the Aurora Seniors’ Centre open house for some gingerbread cookies and a reading of ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas.
• 7:30 p.m. Let the magic of the holiday season begin, with the “The Children’s Toy Shop” play presented by Canadian Children’s Theatre Co. in Council Chambers.
